Providing news for working people (and the unemployed) since the great recession of 2009 /About this site

Boston Nine-5 is a news and information site for working people on the go in Massachusetts.

It is meant to be a quick stop during your busy day to catch up with the latest news either from your desktop, laptop, or cell phone (in fact it was designed with mobile users in mind).

Nine news stories are posted at 9 a.m., Monday through Friday, and updated as needed throughout the day from the best local, national and international sources, with an emphasis on business and social issues that impact the workforce. Five diversions are also posted each day that might help improve your daily life and/or just be a fun escape from your daily work grind.

Massachusetts and the nation are rich with strong news organizations with their own websites, but they rarely link to each other’s stories no matter how important they may be.  Many of these sites are cluttered too, making it slow going when trying to quickly catch up with the news.

This site changes all that, bringing you the best news stories regardless of their origin on a clutter-free website that can easily be viewed on a mobile device.

We carefully select the best source for each story: often comparing versions of news stories side-by-side before choosing the most interesting one for our homepage.

That means a story about a tax scam on the North Shore might come from the award-winning Lawrence Eagle Tribune; an article on an important bill in Congress might come from the Washington Post; and an expose on Wall Street bankers might come from the Wall Street Journal or McClatchy newspaper group.

We also believe it is worthwhile to see how others outside the US view what is happening here and in the world and therefore will seek stories from foreign news organizations, such as the BBC and Al Jazeera.

This is a site for discerning tastes that is certain to evolve over the coming weeks and months. We welcome your opinions on our future development and promise to do what we can to serve you better. Please let us know how we’re doing. All suggestions are welcome.

We want to hear from you: Tell us what you think of this site.
